Goulburn Pickleball was established in May 2024, with an idea that if you get enough interest, it can become a bit of a thing.
Our early days were a Sunday afternoon with two courts, wobbly lines taped on the court, nets and paddles and an idea to 'come and try' We were not expecting much, but we had a slow build and eventually we had a core group of people who would turn up each week and have fun doing it.
Being May in Goulburn, it started to get a lot colder, and windier, so we tried the option of Indoor Pickleball, played at Veiola Arena. This was a great way to continue to play and strenghthen the skills of our building band of players. It wasn't a raging success, there were setbacks in hiring the courts on consistent days, but we kept going.
We returned to the outdoors, and with the support and blessing of Goulburn Tennis Club, we were allowed to paint down permanent lines. This brought us to two permanent courts, and we even had two permanent days (Sunday and Monday) and we were starting to look more like a group than ever.
After seeing our popularity grow with the permanent lines, we were given permission to paint the other court and double our capacity. We scrambled to order more nets and balls to expand our space and build our group.
Next, we became 'Official' Goulburn Pickleball Playing Group was officially registered with Pickleball NSW, and we now feature on their site as a place to play, and you can register as a Member of PANSW and nominate Goulburn as your official home.
Today, we are growing in leaps and bounds. We have introduced a Beginners and Newstarter session on Sunday afternoons for those who want to learn, but not with the pressure of the regular crowd. This group has a consistent following, and a regular crowd of ladies who come along for a 'hit and giggle' and of course, enjoy Pickleball
Our crowds continue to grow, we are looking at ways to manage this and with the launch of our site, introduced a booking system where we can manage the numbers, and make sure that if you come to play, you get plenty of time on court, and get value for your time.
The bookings will be a soft launch, much like the launch of our new site, but a definite date will be set and you will need to book your place to play.
To make the bookings work, you will need to register as a member of Goulburn Pickleball. This is free. This will give you access to login and book your playing session. IF you want to become a member of PANSW, you can head to their site and register, and select Goulburn as your club, this does have a fee, is optional at this point, but DOES give you limited coverage, as per the waiver you agree to when you book your place.
We will add a space for you to notify your registration number as we work through and develop the bookings.
